SMSO Education offers a range of educational services and tutoring is a major part of what we do.
Due to increasing demand, we are looking for tutors in Maths, Science, English & other subjects. Details of available vacancies are listed below.
Maths Tutors
All Maths tutors should expect to teach students from year 2 to year 11.
We offer staff the opportunity to tutor A Level students if you have the required subject knowledge and experience. Please refer to the requirement section.
For staff that can offer specific exam prep such as the 11+, 13+, 16+, TMUA, MAT, STEP, please indicate this in your application.
We will aim to match students that are suitable to your experience and skill set.
All of our lessons are taught online currently. Staff use a mixture of Zoom, MS Teams or Google Meet to deliver their lessons.
Lessons are normally 50 minutes for students in year 2 to 11 and 60 minutes for year 12 & 13 students.
Staff are timetabled according to their availability and students’ requirement. Most of our staff work 5-8 hours a week, with a mixture of weekday evenings and one day at the weekend.
Applicants should be reading or have graduated with a Maths degree or a degree with significant mathematical content such as Physics, Engineering or Economics. We will consider applications with other related background in Maths.
Staff also must have:
- A good understanding and experience of the GCSE/IGCSE and/or A Level Maths/Further Maths specification.
- At least a B in A Level Maths for GCSE Maths tutoring.
- At least an A in A Level Further Maths for A Level Maths tutoring.
- A DBS check is preferable but not essential.
Requirements for any other exams will be discussed at interview.
Staff’s rate of pay is offered according to an established pay scale within the company.
Wage will be paid every four weeks.
All classes are one-to-one. If you are asked to tutor groups or A Level students, there will be extra payment.
Staff will be hired by the company and are not required to registered as self-employed.
Staff are asked to work a minimum of four lessons a week. Most staff work between 4 to 8 hours a week.

Lessons are normally 50 minutes for students in year 2 to 11 and 60 minutes for year 12 & 13 students.

- A good understanding and experience of the UK GCSE/IGCSE and A Level English curriculum.
Can tutor English Literature and Language to GCSE standard. - Achieved at least a grade 8 in GCSE/IGCSE English Literature and Language.
- Achieved at least a grade B in English at A Level in either subjects.
- For tutoring A Level Literature, staff must be reading an English Literature degree.
- A DBS check is preferable but not essential.

We offer staff the opportunity to tutor A Level students if you have the required subject knowledge and experience. Please refer to the requirement section.
For staff that can offer specific exam prep such as the 11+, 13+, 16+, PAT, NSAA, please indicate this in your application.
We will aim to match students that are suitable to your experience and skill set.

Lessons are normally 50 minutes for students in year 2 to 11 and 60 minutes for year 12 & 13 students.

Although not as regular as the subjects mentioned above, we often have requests for tutors of curriculum subjects such as Computer Science, Geography, MFL or Economics.

Olympiad Tutors

We are currently looking for staff, who has the right experience and skills to join our Olympiad tutor team. Staff should expect to teach interested and motivated students advanced topics in Maths, Science, Informatic or Linguistics.
All of our lessons are taught online currently. Staff use a mixture of Zoom, MS Teams or Google Meet to deliver their lessons.
Lessons are normally 50 minutes for students in at Junior level or below. For Intermediate and Senior levels, lessons are 60 minutes or more.
Staff are timetabled according to their availability and students’ requirement. Most of our staff work 5-8 hours a week, with a mixture of weekday evenings and one day at the weekend.
Staff also must have:
Gained Gold certificates and/or medals in Maths and Science challenges or beyond.
A DBS check is preferable but not essential.
Staff’s rate of pay is offered according to an established pay scale within the company.
Wage will be paid every four weeks.
