Suitability

The Senior Maths Olympiad Level 2 course is designed to be technically demanding and can be time consuming. Therefore, students must be familiar with questions in the UK Mathematical Olympiad for Girls and British Mathematical Olympiad 1.

This course is suitable for students who satisfy at least one of the following conditions:

  • have completed our Senior Maths Olympiad Level 1 course
  • have achieved a medal or prize for one of the Maths Olympiads mentioned above
  • have been selected for the Initial Olympiad Training Camp at The Queen’s College, University of Oxford

There is no lower age limit, but the upper age limit is year 11. Students should be aiming to be selected for the Hungary training camp or compete in BMO2.


Prerequisite knowledge and skills

  • students are expected to have mastered most common topics in Intermediate Olympiads and BMO1 such as circle theorems, counting techniques, PHP, modular arithmetic, proof by induction, AM-GM inequality etc.

Content

For this course, students will be taught more advanced skills and concepts in all four areas of Maths Olympiad. The main aim is for students to be able to achieve a medal in the BMO1 or above.

The level of questions used will be similar to those of British Mathematical Olympiad 1, 2 and other countries’ National Olympiad.
