Kate has a particular interest in medical sciences, currently working towards her PhD in Immunology. Kate was awarded funding by the Medical Research Council to undertake her project investigating suppression of the immune system in sepsis, as part of the competitive GW4 BioMed2 doctoral training programme.  

Kate has a strong academic record, having read Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge. Her studies covered a broad range of subjects including chemistry and mathematics to begin, specialising towards biological modules in her final year. Following the successful completion of her undergraduate degree, Kate was offered a place to complete an MPhil degree in the Department of Pathology, where she worked on a project aiming to develop a novel method of diagnosing blood cancers. Between her master’s degree and beginning her PhD, Kate worked as a Research Assistant at Cardiff University where she applied her biological knowledge to many research projects, resulting in 7 publications to date. 

Outside academia Kate is passionate about outreach projects, volunteering as a STEM Ambassador to encourage young people to consider careers in science and open doors to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Kate teaches Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry at GCSE level; and Biology at A-Level.
